On December 7th, the WHO updated its living guideline on COVID-19 therapeutics, including convalescent plasma (CCP). This led to their recommendation against the use of CCP for COVID-19 patients. As the SUPPORT-E Consortium we wish to respond to these recommendations.

European Commission invests €36M to support CCP collection
The European Commission has selected 24 projects that will build new programmes, or expand existing ones, for the collection of plasma from donors recovered from COVID-19. The projects, which will take place in 14 Member States and the UK.

EU Commission allocates €4m grant for SUPPORT-E
The EU-project on COVID-19 convalescent plasma was selected by the European Commission for funding. It will provide recommendations to tackle COVID-19 and guidance on how to best use convalescent plasma to address the current pandemic and potential future ones, at European level.
